Leaves of Grass by Nauticalmass

Leaves of Grass by Nauticalmass

Official Summary:
After returning from Italy, Bella's not sure if she can still love Edward. The next morning, she awakens in an unimaginable time and place: Houston, 1862. When she encounters a member of the Cullen family as a human, how far will she follow her heart?

Review:
Jasper.....

*Sighs...fans self...Sighs*
*drools...sighs...*

Okay sorry about that, I had to collect my thoughts!! As you can probably tell, I am the resident Jasper Lover. Well, honestly I am a bit of a Twi-slut, cuz I would happily have any or all of the Cullen Men.

Now down to business: Leaves of Grass is an exceptional story. It is unique and filled with history. There are a few time-travel pieces featuring Edward, however this is the first that I know of featuring Jasper. Being from Texas and extremely familiar with Houston/Galveston area, I can tell you from first-hand experience that Nauticalmass described the landscape perfectly. I could almost feel the breeze sweeping over the cotton fields.

The story opens with Bella and Edward after the trip to Italy, having the conversation about Bella's future. Edward being Edward, tries to delay the inevitable, but Bella being the strong and determined character that she is meant to be is unhappy with his avoidance. After a very cryptic conversation with Alice, she falls asleep and wakes to find herself in Texas smack dab in the middle of the Civil War. At first she has no idea why she is there or what has prompted her to dream of such a strange time. She fumbles through until she finds herself face to face with gray-eyed, human Jasper.
His hair was a little darker blond but still had a slight wave to it as it curled around his ears. The lines of his face were not the hard, granite edges I knew but still strong and masculine. More surprising even than his gray eye color was the slight stubble on the side of his face, indicating that either he hadn't shaved since this morning or that he was rushed when he did it this evening. My fingers practically itched to touch his face, just to see if it felt warm. He had a square jawline, a faint indentation in his chin, and high cheekbones with cheeks that were beginning to flush.

"Um," Jasper stammered, looking away and reminding me that I wasn't hiding my stare from him. "You clearly know who I am, but should I know who you are?"

"Oh, yes, of course. Sorry," I said shaking my head. "You're Jasper, and I'm Bella. Bella Swan. Well, it's Isabella, but just Bella. Please."

I sounded like an idiot.

"Well, Just Bella—Bella Swan—it's nice to meet you," he said, taking my gloved hand and kissing it.

I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks and felt foolish. I couldn't believe Jasper Hale—Civil War era Jasper Hale—just kissed my hand. It was something that always looked over the top in movies, yet when Jasper did it, it was so natural that he looked as if he had invented the social convention himself.

"How do you know the Whitlocks?" I asked him as he dropped my hand back to my lap.

"I'm Jasper Whitlock. I'm sorry, when you called me Jasper, I assumed you knew that," he said, looking at me curiously.

"Whitlock?"

Jasper Whitlock? Of course, he wasn't Jasper Hale.
Through the course of a week, Jasper and Bella become friends, they discuss the war and Jasper's plans for after its end. When it is time for him to return to his troops they begin writing letters.

I love this break that Bella gets, away from the Cullens and Edward. It gives her a chance to grow and realize that she is more than what Edward needs and Edward is not enough to keep her happy.
As I reread his words, I had to set the letter down on my bed and press a cool hand to my flushed face. I couldn't believe how Jasper's letters affected me, and I clearly affected him as well. Whenever Edward complimented me, I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed. Edward might have meant what he said, but I had the inability to interpret his comments as more than simple niceties. Jasper's flattering words made me feel a strange confidence, though. I was able to believe everything he said, and when he told me I was beautiful, I felt beautiful. Knowing he saw me that way didn't make me want to turn and hide behind my hair as I might have once done. I realized that I wanted Jasper to think those things about me. I liked how Jasper saw me, and I liked how he made me see myself.
As their relationship progresses and time passes, Bella forgets about Vampires and the fact that she is not in her own time. She falls into a routine and a comfort until it all comes to a stop and she is quickly reminded of Jasper's change. Try as she might to stop his fateful ride into Galveston, she was too late. Jasper meets Maria and the future is set in motion. But what about Bella stuck in 1862??

This is an awesome WIP, I am on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how Nauticalmass will transition back into the current day, if at all. What will become of Alice and Edward, and will Jasper and Bella get their Happily Ever After??

Must read to find out!!!

Author Interview:

What gave you the idea for this story?
I absolutely loved Tkegl's Edward/Bella time travel fic "Beyond Time." It was so wonderfully researched and well crafted that it inspired me to go on the hunt for a time travel story featuring Bella and Jasper. Then, I was really disappointed that I couldn't find one of the same historical caliber. I pouted for a while, but it finally occurred to me, when reading the Civil War-era sagaCane River by Lalita Tademy, that I should attempt to write one myself.

Are there any fanfic authors that inspire you?

There are of course the goddesses of time travel, Tkegl and Amethyst Jackson ("Only Human"). I also really admire MerinaGreen, whose "Running" painted such a vivid landscape for her characters that it had me thinking of Siberia at the oddest moments; Janna Banana, whose "When Darkness Turns to Light" is a story I return to reread every few months; Elise Montgomery, whose original characters in "Mary, Full of Grace" have so much depth, it makes me wonder why they aren't a part of canon; and McGee42, who, in her every story, amazes mewith her ability to think outside of the box.

What was your main inspiration for your lead characters?

I love stories that focus on Bella's strength, and I really wanted her to open her eyes and be more self-aware in this story. Stephenie Meyer so perfectly captured the frenzied and sometimes blind qualities of first love, but I wanted Bella and Jasper to have a relationship that started with friendship, something missing from the story of Bella and Edward.

We don't get nearly enough Jasper in the saga, so I got to play with him a little more, especially human Jasper. As a human, I wanted him to be a more vulnerable character than perhaps we are used to seeing from the Major in fanfic. I wanted him to be on a somewhat equal level with Bella, though you'll find, in this story, Bella is really the one calling all of the shots

What do you think it takes to make a fic special and stand out to a reader?
To truly stand out in fandom, stories need to be well thought out, researched, and truly crafted. The best stories are those where the author has a clear vision of what they want to happen and follows that, instead of perhaps pandering to the desires of their readers. I often find that the authors of the fics I enjoy do an even better job with their plots than whatever I could have imagined happening.

What did/do you find the hardest about writing this story?

At first, I thought I might have a difficult time incorporating the historical facts into the story without it becoming dull. However, the hardest part of writing the story was laying a plausible foundation for a relationship between Bella and Jasper without damaging the canon characterizations of Alice and Edward. In many Bella/Jasper fics, Alice and Edward are vilified or completely out of character, and I really didn't want to do that in "Leaves of Grass."

Why do you think people should read this story?

The premise of "Leaves of Grass" is largely different from the other Jasper/Bella fics in fandom, and because of its delicate treatment of Edward and Alice, I think it could make a good introduction to B/J fics for the uninitiated canon-shipper. It is also features a more mature and natural relationship progression between the two lovebirds, allowing Bella to really discover who she is an individual before committing herself to anyone.

What cliches do you feel authors should avoid while writing fanfic?

There's a fine line between working within the basis of canon and being a slave to it. Bella doesn't have to bite her lip in every scene, nor does Edward need to constantly pinch the bridge of his nose. Alice shouldn't always be hyper and demanding to play make-over or shop, and Rosalie shouldn't slap Emmett upside the head in every scene. The list goes on and on. We're all reading fanfic because we want to explore the possibility of something new, and that's what authors should provide.

Do your RL friends and family know about your love and obsession with all things Twilight?

My friends and family all know that I am definitely a Twilight fan. Everyone has either been invited over for the DVD release parties for each of the movies or begged to play one of the saga's trivia board games after a bottle of wine. However, the only person who knows I write fanfiction is my husband, though I would share that information with certain friends if it ever came up in conversation.

Do you have any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?

This summer, I'm researching and outlining a piece of original fiction set at the start of the twentieth century. In terms of fanfic, I'll need to take a short break when "Leaves of Grass" is complete, but Jasper's story has been nagging at me. I'll eventually write his side of "LoG," his time with Maria, coming to the Cullens with Alice, and when he met Bella again in the present day.

Do you have anyone that you'd like to thank for helping and supporting you through this fic?

I have an absolute dream team working behind the scenes of "Leaves of Grass." I have two amazing betas, JointGifts and McGee42, who have both gone above and beyond in terms of being excellent sounding boards and double checking certain historical facts. My pre-reader, JaspersDestiny, deserves monuments in her honor for all of her fabulous ideas that have found their way into my story.

When you aren't writing which fics are you reading right now?
I am currently reading "Someday" by Duskri123, "Conversations with my Killer" by Oracle_Vas, "Decay" by HammerHips, "Distant Starlight" by ClandestinePen, "A May to December Romance" by Positively 4th Street, "Fridays at Noon" by troublefollows1017, "Dear Mr. Masen" by jendonna, "Sins of the Piano Man" by solareclipses, and "Slow Burn" by givemesomevamp.

How were you introduced to the fandom? Do you remember which story was the first you read?
After reading Breaking Dawn, I was left disappointed and slightly aghast at what happened (and what didn’t). I went online to find reactions from other readers and stumbled across fanfiction. I started reading a few missing scenes and canon EPOVs, all mainly by Blondie. Then, I started reading alternate endings and other E/B AU fics before blissfully discovering the fabulousness of Jasper/Bella. Now, I’m just starting to read some darker fics and, at the insistence of others in the fandom, the occasional AH story.

Is there any information that you would like to share that was not already covered?

I also need to thank so many of my readers whose thoughtful comments and reviews have helped me feel confident about my ability to research and write my own fiction. A huge thank you goes out to all of the girls on the "LoG" forum thread for all of their love and support.

Love is the End by phoebes.promise

Love is the End by phoebes.promise

Official Summary:
If he had only spoken the right words at the right time she would be his forever. Instead, they ache, love and long for each other in silence. A bittersweet love story desperately searching for a happily ever after.

Review:
I am not a fairy tale, fluffy, HEA love story kinda girl. They bore me. I don't like too much angst, but just a little to keep me wondering if a HEA is in the future. I prefer my love stories to be laced with realism and depth. I want to watch a story unfold and see how each character grows and how they are affected by whatever obstacles are placed in front of them. I will be the first to admit I am a bit of a snob and extremely picky when reading FanFiction. So when a story owns me...it truly does own me. And I have to say that Love is the End OWNS me. I started reading around 8 am one morning and didn't stop till I was done...my phone was glued to my hand, children ate cereal for dinner and I seriously don't think I even acknowledged my husband's return from a long day of work (he also ate cereal for dinner).

Love is the End is a story about Edward and Bella, but it is in NO WAY like any other story I have read. It spans several years through flashbacks and memories from both points of view. Don't worry, it doesn't flip flop back and forth with each chapter repeated. No, phoebes. promise has seamlessly blended their stories so well and given the characters such a distinct voice that honestly the EPOV or BPOV is not even needed at the start of a chapter.

The story starts with Bella and Edward stuck in a situation that they both willingly put themselves in, a situation that Bella is finally ready to get out of. Their bad choices, lack of communication and forces outside of their control have kept them apart for too many years. The story is about how they deal with their mistakes and overcome the obstacles placed in front of them.

She reached for me as her shouting morphed into an agonizing whisper, "I want to wake up to your gorgeous face and have sex before the sun rises. I want to make your favorite dinner and pour your favorite wine. And I want to listen to you read fairytales to our babies every single night for the rest of our lives."

A familiar pain tore through my chest as I listened to her. She was broken from the past, needing our new beginning. She deserved so much more than a year of clandestine traveling and late night phone calls. She'd consumed me since I was eighteen years old. I'd loved her as long as she'd loved me and then some. I wrapped my arms around her tiny, trembling body and laid her back on the bed underneath me.

"Please stop leaving me," she begged and wrapped her legs around my waist as I pushed into her.

I framed her face with my hands, running my thumbs underneath her jaw. Pressing my forehead to hers, I thrust into her long, deep and hard; filling her completely with the body and soul that belonged only to her.

"It was supposed to be us…" Bella whimpered against my lips.

"I know, baby. I know."
Throughout your life who you are changes, as does the title that dictates the role you play, regardless of whether you are with your family, friends, or partner. At one point you might be the rebellious or the obedient daughter, the newlywed, the bread winner, the mother, the taxi driver, the friend, and so on and so on...our roles are always changing. phoebes.promise takes that and applies it to a group of friends and their dynamics with in their family. She plays with their choices and the outcomes that come about as a result of those choices.

"Dr. Uley mentioned your resignation from the foundation board." He was relentless.

"Oh, he did?" She whispered, her head low.

"Sweetheart, why?" Victoria asked concerned.

"Because it's the right thing to do," Bella answered squaring her shoulders slightly.

"But with your professional background…" Victoria pushed.

"Jake has plenty of therapeutic knowledge. He respected my decision and so did Sam's parents." Bella lifted another dish from the pile with trembling hands.
Emmett scoffed loudly, moving closer to add a dirty beer mug to the task.
Sensing his approach behind her, Bella spun around and dropped a plate at his feet.

"Just say what you need to say Emmett, so we can all fucking move on." The dam finally gave way.

"That's what it's all about, isn't it? Moving on…" He taunted.

"What do you want me from me? I can't live with this hate and guilt from you anymore. It's torturing me," Bella cried.

"Oh, poor Bella," he said dramatically.

"Emmett, stop!" Rosalie demanded.

I steadied Bella, placing my hands on her shoulders and whispered, "Let's go upstairs." She forcibly shook me off.

"You're all he fucking had," Emmett shouted through his own tears. "He needed you."

"You don't think I loved my husband?"

I know many of you have hard limits against reading stories written about either Bella or Edward having an affair. I will say that yes, there is an affair in this story, but the affair is the story. Please give this story a chance and don't judge it by it's cover. phoebes.promise is an excellent writer and her story will have you laughing, crying, and thinking about the roads you have chosen to take in life.

Author Interview:
What gave you the idea for this story?
I've always been fascinated by relationships and friendships. Some connections are natural, some are forced and some we just settle for. I really wanted to test and explore the nature and strength of various bonds, love through life experiences.

Are there any fanfic authors that inspire you?
Absolutely. I'm inspired by all authors who create and offer a little bit of themselves. But a few have really awed and inspired me to try harder, to write better...

My partner in crime, jarkin33 is phenomenal at plot development. She has a mad talent of bringing believable experiences to her characters. She's patient with her characters, regardless of their actions. She gave us one of the very best Edward's in FF in The White Swan Lodge, he's as sexy as he is sweet.

I'm convinced littlesecret84 could teach a masterclass on dialogue. She writes the most believable and well paced dialogue. Her words are perfectly measured in her character's thoughts and beyond... true magic on a page. She has an effortless style. Every line is vivid and loaded. Her storytelling consumes in the best of ways.

I admire Saint Kristen and emilyg80 for taking risks and doing things their way. They're bold, so genuine, incredibly honest in their writing and beyond. They know how to have fun. And they respect, regard their readers like close friends.

samrosey creates beautiful, lyrical love stories while quiely weaving sensuality and romance through every plot.
denverpopcorn creates such unique, dreamy fics. Yet, the words and happenings are so perfectly real. Her storytelling is so visceral, with this lovely ease in phrasing that begs you to crawl inside and live forever.

What was your main inspiration for your lead characters?
Bits of the back story and Edward's profession are quite familiar to me, as is Bella's taste in shoes... Their qualities, troubles and motivations were drawn from friends and life experiences. My husband often watches documentaries on athletes and tragic, often preventable sports injuries. Sam's character grew tremendously for me as I researched daily living with paralysis. It's the one regret I had on completion that I didn't add more depth in his storyline.

What do you think it takes to make a fic special and stand out to a reader?
To haunt, touch, pull me... a fic has to be honest, believable. I think relatable plots, story lines are the most gripping or heartwarming. Flawed characters whose very nature and being could be my neighbor, my brother, or even myself... Hearing from readers regarding their own life parallels to Love is the End was incredible. Surviving an affair, a divorce, a miscarriage or a tragic accident... we've all been touched by life's nightmares in one way or another. That thread creates a bond, and maybe an outlet for dealing, thinking or healing.

What did/do you find the hardest about writing this story?
The difficulty was absolutely in making characters with soulful, good hearts do the wrong thing. Edward and Bella aren't perfect, they're completely flawed. They cheat, they hurt others, they live a lie for a very long time... all while being these extraordinary giving people, loving their friends and each other fiercely. Leaving the reader with hope that they'll find their HEA was a challenge. They had to grow individually before they could give and be what each other needed.

Why do you think people should read this story?
I'd love it if they would give it a try. I love getting insight from readers, to hear their thoughts on the difficult path of the lovers. I hope at the close, for a reader to feel the fight was worth it. That the hurt and want made sense, that they deserved the bliss of their HEA.

What cliches do you feel authors should avoid while writing fanfic?

I think it's nearly impossible to avoid any and all cliches, and it's probably somewhat subjective. Taking risks with your characters is so rewarding... an empty bank account, unhealthy habits, desperate, weak. It drives the plot, that hope and need.

Do your RL friends and family know about your love and obsession with all things Twilight?
My husband knows, understands, reads and helps... which earns plenty of arched brows. I've made some beautiful and important RL friends through the Twifandom.

Have you got any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?
I'm extremely excited about writing, collaborating with the wonderful and incredibly talented, jarkin33 (Jaime), at aftrnoondlight. We're having more fun than should be allowed. We've completed two o/s and two short stories. Beneath the Undertow is also now complete. We're so grateful for the emotional, poignant response we've received. The first chapter of our new fic, Outbound, will be included in the Fandom for Sexual Assault Awareness compilation. Then it will begin posting in August.

Do you have anyone that you'd like to thank for helping and supporting you through this fic?

The two sweetest friends a person could have, jaimearkin and FFpassion. They were the voice and energy behind Love is the End, truly. They kept me balanced when the emotions were high and themes were undesirable. Through death, affairs, divorce, pregnancies and beyond they were there... no matter the timezones or topic... they ALWAYS answered. Love you!

Big hugs to Melg0510 for the beautiful video. Much thanks to 1redsoc for naming sweet Chloe. Sweet thanks to Misti for starting the discussion thread. My hubby deserves a kiss or two for sharing his professional knowledge and then some. And an extra smooch to Jaime for sharing her creative talent on the gorgeous banners and blinkie.

And to the kindest readers and friends in the fandom and beyond. The reviews, the messages, the blog posts, you made the words worth it. You know who you are, I love you, thank you.

When you aren't writing which fics are you reading right now?
Pigtails by Saint Kristen and emilyg80
once and future lovers by littlesecret84
SOUL by denverpopcorn
Between Dusk and the End of Summer by maxipoo1024
The Companion by samrosey
Colouring in the Dark by samrosey
Rosebud by Arabella's
We Come to Life Beneath the Stars by Lillybellis
And I'm on my 374837 reread of The White Swan Lodge by jarkin33, but I'm not counting.

How were you introduced to the fandom? Do you remember which story was the first you read?
I was late to the dance, peeking in around New Moon theater time. I was literally breathless and inspired by the intense chemistry of the leads. I then noticed a link for MotU on a R/K fan blog and well... yes.

Is there any information that you would like to share that was not already covered?

Any additional information you would like posted???

The Inadvertent Voyeur by FFReaderRW

Official Summary
Although tortured by guilt, Carlisle cannot stop watching Edward from his kitchen window. He feels an indescribable connection to him that takes him years to comprehend. AU Vamp slash. WARNING: Some child abuse is briefly mentioned.

Review
For those of you who don’t know me, in addition to working as part of the TwiFicDataBase staff, I’m one of the lucky women behind the Vampslash blog/contest. (Shamless plug, I know. It couldn’t be avoided.) So when FFReaderRW submited The Inadvertent Voyeur as a Pick of the Week candidate, I was all over it!

This story features a vamp Dr. Carlisle Cullen and Edward Masen as a human teen. As their next door neighbor, Carlisle is afforded the opportunity to watch Edward quite closely. Half the time Carlisle doesn’t even realize he is watching Edward, he gets so caught up in the young man’s actions that he is unaware of his own.

His heightened senses also allow him to pick up on goings on in the Masen household to which no one else is privy. We get a brief glimpse into a slightly darker Carlisle than we generally imagine when he overhears Mr. Masen’s form of discipline.

I began monitoring the house from my kitchen window when I was home from work. Two days later I heard the distinct slapping of a strap and a child's pitiful cries begging for forgiveness. It took every ounce of restraint to keep from rushing into their house. I had never felt such hatred for any living creature.

I began planning that animal's demise. I waited patiently until he was alone before confronting him. It was late and he had gone outside that evening to smoke a cigarette. His eyes widened in horror when I suddenly appeared in front of him, growling out his name. With my right arm, I grasped him by the throat and lifted him high off the ground.”
After the not-so-unfortunate demise of Edward Masen Sr., Carlisle becomes a more active participant in young Edward’s life, encouraging his intellect and artistic abilities. Carlisle’s feelings for Edward are chaste and paternal in the beginning. He only wants Edward to be comfortable, safe and happy - it is all he has ever wanted.

Eventually, as Edward grows to physical maturity, Carlisle recognizes that it is not just his favorite human’s mind to which he is attracted... Edward’s subtle flirtations also do not go unnoticed by the good doctor.

An unexpected heartbreak is what finally brings these two together. Carlisle is Edward’s only companion in his deepest time of need.

"She's dead, isn't she?" His voice is rough. His eyes are glassy.

He has made it easy for me. I simply nod. I sit on the table in front of him and take his hands in both of mine. I need to comfort him in some way. My hands are abnormally cold, but he is so numb right now that he doesn't seem to notice. He stares at the waiting room door blankly, as though he expects [her] to walk in any moment. [...]

For several minutes we sit together and he cries unabated. I try soothing him by stroking his back. I have never had to deal with something like this and I'm at a loss as to what to do. His arms are wrapped so tightly around me that if I were human, I would be in physical pain. [...] His face is buried in my neck and I can feel his hot tears rolling down over my collarbone and down my abdomen.
The Inadvertent Voyeur is a beautiful story - a tale of love and loss and bone-deep need. If you’ve never read slash, or you love slash but have been wary of a Carlisle/Edward pairing, please don’t let that stop you from reading this little oneshot. You’ll be amazed at how naturally this pair fits together.

Author’s Interview

What gave you the idea for this story?
We have a young, handsome pool guy come around once a week to clean our pool. He lets himself into the backyard through the gate and one day I watched him as he worked. He had his earbuds in and seemed totally oblivious to anything going on around him.

Are there any fanfic authors that inspire you?
Yes there are many, but for C/E stories I have to say that Pace is the trick (idylchild) is my favorite. Her vision of all things Carlisle is truly amazing. Like her, I cannot believe that after being alone for more than 200 years, Carlisle would choose to change a human male for purely platonic companionship. Two other Carlisle writers that are favorites are giselle-lx and EliseShaw.

What was your main inspiration for your lead characters?
I can’t think of anything in particular that inspired their personalities in this story. It’s simply the way I’ve always imagined those two.

What do you think it takes to make a fic special and stand out to a reader?
The emotions have to speak to the reader. The story can be completely far-fetched, but the emotions the characters feel have to be realistic.

What did/do you find the hardest about writing this story?
I didn’t want Carlisle to sound like a pervert. He would have to be human for that. I wanted readers to see that as a vampire his attraction to Edward was instinctual. Edward was his mate.

Why do you think people should read this story?
I think the story is warm and sweet and, if a reader likes that sort of thing, they will enjoy it.

What cliches do you feel authors should avoid while writing fanfic?
I haven’t been a writer long enough to feel comfortable giving other writers advice.

Do your RL friends and family know about your love and obsession with all things Twilight?
My husband is a Twilight fanfic reader. He understandably doesn’t care for slash, but is completely obsessed with Bella/Edward stories. This is one little family secret that we share. However, none of our other family knows. It’s fun having a secret from them.

Have you got any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?
I am completely committed to finishing my Edward/Jasper WIP first, but I want to write another C/E story afterwards. It will probably be a sequel to this story.

Do you have anyone that you'd like to thank for helping and supporting you through this fic?
Bbeyedgirl has been the best pre-reader and beta ever.

When you aren't writing which fics are you reading right now?
I am reading a lot of stories right now, but I drop everything when Errors and Omissions or Mergers and Acquisitions post new chapters.

How were you introduced to the fandom? Do you remember which story was the first you read?
Like most everyone, I was obsessed with Stephenie Meyers’ books. I read a copy of Midnight Sun on her website and that got me hooked on Edward’s point of view. Surfing the internet for more information on the books, I accidently came across fanfiction. At the beginning, I read the usual Edward/Bella stories. I don’t remember which story was the first one I read. However, I do remember the first slash story that caught my attention shortly after I started reading fanfiction. It was Over The Top by starfish422. I never went back to het stories after that.

Is there any information that you would like to share that was not already covered?
THANK YOU!!!!

Thanks for reading!

War Zone by jarkin33 & phoebes.promise

Official Summary
Edward and Bella seek the clarity and wisdom to move on from horrific tragedy. Can they find the peace to heal in their bond? A love story as told by Edward.

Review

Some stories make you wait chapters and chapters before you get to any real action or to the heart of the story. War Zone is not one of those stories. Right from the beginning you are drawn into the intensity of where this story begins. You find out that things are not going to be so simple and happy for the two love birds:

My heart… pounding, blood pumping, I was alive. Bella's quick breathing drowned my own, she was alive. But dark red patterns lacing across her pale cheek dripped into the sand. My weight crushing hers, she began mumbling beneath me. I furiously framed her face with my hands, forcing her to look at me. I ran my fingers gingerly over the base of her head, around the front, down the sides… sticky, hot blood. "Bella, talk to me! Where? Tell me?"
Edward and Bella are human in this story, but their attraction is just as strong as it is in Ms. Meyer’s stories. They are a couple just testing the waters of their relationship when the story starts off. We know from the beginning how Bella and Edward know each other, but you need to read the entire story to understand why this one major event has torn them apart. This isn’t a typical “Edward leaves Bella and breaks her heart only to come back and be with her again” tale. This story does involve the famous Edward and Bella being torn apart, but not by one person’s stupid decision. They are torn apart and hurting for some real human reasons and events - events that could happen to any number of us.

But don’t get too depressed. Despite the intensity and sadness of many parts of this story, you won’t be let down by the hot, steamy love scenes:

"Yes, I need it, Edward." Our kiss deepened, desperate and hungry. She pulled my cock free, caressing as our chests heaved. Laying my hand over hers, I guided slowly towards her heat. She moved her panties to the side as I pushed forward. I stroked into her, finally feeding the heightened passion that always lingered. Her body moved with mine, fists gripping my shirt, my neck to steady. "It's so… good," she panted in my ear. Her legs around my waist tightened, I rotated my hips as she cried out. She gasped with wide eyes as she rode out her orgasm, the vision more breathtaking than my dreams. Her lips crushed mine as I welcomed my own delicious burn.
I love Edward and Bella stories where the characters actually act like adults, where you can actually relate to how they feel and can imagine yourself in their situation. Throughout the entire story, you can’t tell if there is going to be a happy ending or not. Just like real life, you aren’t guaranteed a happy ending... but that doesn’t mean they can’t happen. You’ll have to read this one shot to find out. You won’t regret it!

Author Interview

What gave you the idea for this story?

Our first inspiration came from the unique banner by TKegl in the pick a pic contest. The pictures on the banner really drew us in and the focal point seemed to be the press credentials that Bella was wearing so we kind of worked the story around that.

Are there any fanfic authors that inspire you?

samrosey
littlesecret84
cescamarie
denverpopcorn

What was your main inspiration for your lead characters?

We definitely have a distinct way of writing our Edwards so we tend to work around that. Our Edward and Bella experience a very traumatic event together in the open of the story and the way in which they deal with the tragedy both individually and together was important because it determined the path of their love story.

What do you think it takes to make a fic special and stand out to a reader?

We both appreciate flawed believable characters, who grow within the story. Good storytelling, paced appropriately with a realistic resolution is important

What did/do you find the hardest about writing this story?

One shots in general are challenging. The sensitive nature of the opening was difficult, we did a lot of research and wanted to make sure it was as accurate as possible. It needed to be vivid, intense, and descriptive to be effective.

Why do you think people should read this story?

First and foremost it’s a love story between two passionate, driven, young adults. We’re incredibly proud of this and we’ve received several messages with personal stories and deeply emotional reactions regarding the nature of the plot. It’s a full-circle journey for the characters of forgiveness, healing and discovering the best of life and love.

What cliches do you feel authors should avoid while writing fanfic?

We feel the most important thing is to stay true to your plot and vision for the story. If you do that you should be able to avoid any obvious cliches.

Do your RL friends and family know about your love and obsession with all things Twilight?

Phoebespromise‘s hubby provides guidance with the male POV and jarkin33’s sister is an occassional prereader and beta, but otherwise no.. not really.

Do you have any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?

Why yes, yes we do. We just completed a short story titled Beneath the Undertow and are submitting the first of a multi-chapter story in the Fandom 4 Sexual Assault compilation, titled Outbound.

Do you have anyone that you'd like to thank for helping and supporting you through this fic?

The readers and reviewers and everyone who sent us messages of encouragment. We’d also like to thank the hosts of the contest.

When you aren't writing which fics are you reading right now?

We don’t have a lot of time for reading but when we do, we bond over stories like The Companion by samrosey, and SOUL by denverpopcorn.

How were you introduced to the fandom? Do you remember which story was the first you read?

The first story we read together was drift by denverpopcorn
